About Me

I am an independent writer and researcher. I have been studying history of modern China for more a decade. My main focus is Tibetan history after 1950, but I also study CCP policies on international united front, ethnic minorities and religion. Since 2007, I have conducted fieldwork in 17 Tibetan refugee settlements. Since 2008, I have published more than 100 articles in Chinese language magazines in Hong Kong and in the United States.

In July 2010, my book on the 1959 Lhasa Uprising was published in Taiwan and Hong Kong. In 2012, the Chinese edition of When the Iron Bird Flies: The Secret War on the Tibet Plateau 1956-1962 was published in Taiwan. This was followed by two more books, A Secret Journey to Eastern Tibet (2014), The Reborn Guanyin (2017). The English translation of the 1959 Lhasa (Tibet in Agony: Lhasa 1959) was published by Harvard University Press in 2016. Another book, Ocean of Wisdom: The Dalai Lama’s Dialogue with Western Scientists, co-authored with my husband, Mr. Ding Yifu, was published in July, 2018. My latest book, Three Lives in One Lifetime: Memoir of Kirti Rinpoche, is in the process of being published in Chinese, Tibetan and English.

In this blog I will post some of my articles translated into English and introduce books and articles about communism and CCP.
